Just in time for the strike, Monk Press is set to release Killer Commute!

Blurb: When a dead body is found on the 6:57 train from Penn Station, Mick Doran, former boxer, obsessive hypochondriac, and senior detective for the Metropolitan Transit Police is called to investigate. Mick's career hangs in the balance.  His bosses are trying to force him into retirement, especially after the second victim is found. Taking on the case requires Mick to work with his ex-wife’s new husband.  As the case gains notoriety, his world diminishes.
Politicians, MTA executives, local police forces and the families of the victims cry for justice. Who is behind the murders of the innocent commuters?  It takes a man with years of experience on the Long Island train rails to track down this killer.

Killer Commute is approximately 85,000 words.

Bio: Michael Robert Gordon was born in the same town as Walt Whitman.  His short stories have been published in small literary magazines both in print and on the web.  He has worked as a merchant marine, a freelance journalist, and a salesman. He maintains a blog.  His first novel, Acid Tree Park was published by Monk Press.

Charles Bukowski edited his poetry, "I respond to your poems."
Richard Elman called Michael, “An original in the works.”

Something new

Writing a new piece for Monk Press, and for now I’m writing without a title. It’s nice to be back typing the keys. On the train and I really need to move to an open seat where I could move my elbows. I’m in the single seat which faces another single directly. Feeling constrained. Commuters line up in the aisle before we pull into the station; I’m afraid some can look over my hands and see the words. Mind your own business.
We’re having a book release party and I hope some can make it. We’re investing a lot into this event, well not a crazy amount, but enough that I’m now thinking – this may not be a great idea. I’ m not sure how many will attend – if anyone other than family. Maybe a few friends?
Note, last night Ali and I discussed and thought we may need to cancel the event, is becoming too expensive. Hope the hall agrees to pay back some of the money…

Monk Press is back!

I’m excited to announce that Monk Press will be back this year. Look for a possible Richard Elman release - I expect this to occur in November. I’m discussing releasing one or two of his unpublished books under Monk Press with his widow. I hope we can publish at least one of his books. I just wish he was alive and could see the amazing changes to the publishing industry. I’m currently reading Green Ice “A Milt Gorton Police Novel by Otis Wheelock.” So far the book is incredible, with Richard’s strong and surprising characters. The fast paced story takes place on Long Island and involves international investigations.

The last book on Monk Press was Acid Tree Park, which by the way I still a handful of few first edition copies. I will be happy to sign them and mail them for a small fee; $15.00 USD will include postage. Please send an email to monkpress@gmail.com or purchase one of the copies on Amazon.

There will be at least one release by Chester Fid, a bizarre writer who lives in a small room in Port Jefferson. Chester writes with a typewriter, but lately his work is written with a faint pen and a yellow legal pad. His work has appeared in a few publications, but he needs an outlet and I promised to give him a shot.

Look for a novella by yours truly, for now it's called Catapult and will be released in June.

be well,

Mike
